Step 1: Prepare Essential Items

  • IDs for you and children (driver’s license, passports, birth certificates, Social Security cards)

  • Medications and medical records

  • Keys (home, car, work)

  • Money (cash), credit/debit cards, checkbook

  • Legal papers (protective orders, custody papers, immigration documents)

  • Important contacts written down

  • A few days’ clothing and personal hygiene items

  • Small amount of cash for emergency transportation

Step 2: Plan Your Escape Routes & Safe Places

  • Identify at least two ways to leave your home quickly

  • Practice your plan with children (if safe)

  • Choose a safe place to go: friend, family, shelter, or public space

  • Memorize important phone numbers and addresses

  • Consider using a friend’s phone or computer for sensitive searches

  • Check devices for spyware or tracking apps
